Kazakhstan has shut down its main oil terminal on the Black Sea after Ukrainian drone strikes on two tankers. This is the third suspension in a month, threatening the country's economic interests.
Kazakhstan has suspended oil transportation to its main export terminal on the Russian coast of the Black Sea following a series of attacks on tankers. Reuters reports, as cited by UNN.
Kazakhstan's main oil export terminal on the Black Sea closed for the third time this month on Thursday, halting oil loading onto tankers after Ukrainian drones struck two vessels at and near the terminal in the Russian port of Novorossiysk
It is noted that the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which owns the terminal and the pipeline transporting Kazakh oil through Russian territory to the Black Sea, made this statement just two days after resuming vessel loading at the terminal following a week-long pause.
Repeated disruptions to CPC infrastructure, which accounts for 80% of Kazakhstan's oil exports, underscore the growing threat to the country's economic interests due to Russia's war in Ukraine, as well as to the interests of American oil giant Chevron, which has significant investments in Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry confirmed the strikes, although it did not name Ukraine as the perpetrator. Ukrainian drone forces stated that they struck four Russian tankers in the Black and Azov Seas overnight, but did not specify where exactly
