Aprea was born in New Jersey to Italian immigrants on March 4, 1941. He and his family moved back to Italy for a few years before returning to New Jersey, where he remained until the early 1960s.
He moved to New York to become an actor and later moved back to Los Angeles. He made his film debut with a small role in the movie Bullitt (1968), a classic car action movie starring Steve McQueen.
