Iran's President says the country will retaliate against Israel for the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh. The United States warns of a possible Iranian attack on Israel, and Russia intensifies cooperation with Iran.

Iranian President Massoud Peseshkian at a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu on August 5 in Tehran promised that the Iranian authorities would respond to Israel for the assassination of Hamas political bureau head Ismail Haniyeh. This was reported by the Financial Times, according to UNN.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran in no way seeks to expand the scale of the war and crisis in the region, but this regime (Israel - ed.) will definitely be held accountable for its crimes and impudence," Pezeshkian said at a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.

The warning came a day after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told his G7 colleagues that Washington was prepared for an "imminent" Iranian attack on Israel.
