In the Lviv region, a Range Rover driver fled from the police after a document check revealed the need to report to the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, hit a law enforcement officer - he is now in the hospital in stable but serious condition, the driver was detained, and he faces life imprisonment for the crime, reported the Main Department of the National Police in the region, writes UNN.

The incident occurred on July 20. It was established that around 11:30 a.m. in the village of Dovhe, Stryi district, a patrol police crew stopped a Land Rover Range Rover, whose driver, a 41-year-old resident of the Lviv district, had violated traffic rules.

"During the document check, it turned out that the driver needed to report to the territorial center for recruitment and social support," the police stated.

As reported, "subsequently, the driver, according to preliminary data, left the scene." "During the escape, he damaged the police service vehicle.  Later, ignoring a stop demand from another patrol, he ran over a 31-year-old senior police lieutenant – an inspector from another crew of the patrol police response unit of the Stryi district police department, who had blocked the roadway of the bridge over the Stryi River towards the district center, and also damaged another service vehicle. After that, the suspect fled the scene and abandoned the damaged vehicle in Stryi," the statement reads. 

As the police indicated, as a result of the incident, the police officer sustained numerous bodily injuries, including multiple fractures, abdominal and chest trauma, a closed head injury, and was hospitalized in the polytrauma department. Doctors currently assess his condition as stable but serious.

Law enforcement officers located the suspect in Lviv and detained him in accordance with Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The detainee, as stated, is suspected of committing criminal offenses under Article 348 (Encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer, a member of a public formation for the protection of public order and the state border, or a serviceman) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Part 2 of Article 342 (Resistance to a representative of authority, a law enforcement officer, a state executor, a private executor, a member of a public formation for the protection of public order and the state border, or a serviceman, an authorized person of the Deposit Guarantee Fund) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The maximum punishment provided for by the sanctions of the articles is life imprisonment.
