How much do gasoline and diesel cost at Ukrainian gas stations and will their prices increase?

Against the backdrop of a new escalation of the conflict around Iran and, in particular, the Strait of Hormuz, international and Ukrainian experts have expressed fears of a further increase in the price of gasoline and diesel fuel at gas stations.

UNN analyzed the most relevant statements by politicians, analysts' forecasts, and fuel prices to find out whether drivers will indeed have to pay more and where it will be cheapest to fill up a gas tank now.

Gasoline at Ukrainian gas stations: where to buy the cheapest

At gas stations in Kyiv and Kyiv region, on April 13, A-95 gasoline is sold at prices ranging from UAH 61.99 to UAH 76.99 per liter.

The cheapest place to buy it is at Shell gas stations. There, this type of fuel costs UAH 61.99. At Ukrnafta gas stations, the price is UAH 68.99, at BRSM-Nafta – UAH 69.99, at Avantage 7 – UAH 70.95.

At Marshal and AMIC networks, A-95 gasoline is sold for UAH 70.99 per liter. At Market gas stations, the price is UAH 71.99, at MANGO – UAH 72.49, at BVS – UAH 72.90.

At KLO gas stations, A-95 gasoline costs UAH 73.69 per liter, at UPG – UAH 74.00. At WOG and OKKO networks, the price is UAH 76.90 per liter. At SOCAR, the price of A-95 gasoline is fixed at UAH 76.99 per liter.

A liter of A-95+ will cost drivers a little more. It can be bought from UAH 64.99 to UAH 80.99 per liter.

The Shell gas station network offers the cheapest gasoline of this brand. There, a liter of A-95+ gasoline costs UAH 64.99. At Ukrnafta gas stations, this type of fuel is sold for UAH 71.99 per liter.

At AMIC gas stations, A-95+ gasoline costs UAH 73.99 per liter. The same price is recorded in the Marshal network. At BVS, a liter of this fuel is sold for UAH 75.90.

In the UPG network, the cost of A-95+ gasoline is UAH 77.00 per liter. At KLO, the price is fixed at UAH 78.09 per liter. At WOG and OKKO gas stations, a liter of A-95+ gasoline costs UAH 79.90.

The highest price was set at SOCAR gas stations. There, A-95+ gasoline is sold for UAH 80.99 per liter.

How much does diesel cost at domestic gas stations: prices as of April 13

On April 13, the cost of diesel fuel at Ukrainian gas stations ranges from UAH 61.99 to UAH 92.99 per liter. The lowest price is offered at Shell gas stations, where a liter of diesel costs UAH 61.99. Next is Ukrnafta with a price of UAH 73.99 per liter of fuel.

In the segment from UAH 87 to UAH 90 per liter, diesel is sold by several networks at once. In particular, at BRSM-Nafta the cost is UAH 87.99 per liter, at BVS – UAH 89.90, and at Marshal – UAH 89.99. At UPG gas stations, diesel is sold for UAH 90.00 per liter.

Diesel fuel, costing over UAH 90 per liter, can also be found at gas stations in Kyiv and the region. Thus, at KLO, the cost of diesel fuel is UAH 90.90, at Avantage 7 – UAH 90.95. In the MANGO, Market, and AMIC networks, the same price is recorded – UAH 90.99 per liter.

The highest prices today were set by WOG, OKKO, and SOCAR. At WOG and OKKO, a liter of diesel costs UAH 92.90, while at SOCAR – UAH 92.99 per liter.

Should Ukrainians expect a new round of fuel price increases: expert opinions

Serhiy Kuyun, director of the A95 consulting group and fuel market expert, said on the national telethon that the news for motorists would be disappointing, and against the backdrop of a new round of the international crisis around the Strait of Hormuz, fuel would significantly increase in price.

The news is disappointing: we expect a new round of fuel price increases. During the day today, we will better understand the price situation. If something used to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, now nothing will. Accordingly, it will not get better from this.

Volodymyr Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, shares this view and also believes that Ukrainians should prepare for an increase in diesel and gasoline prices. At least, in two weeks, according to the expert, they will definitely skyrocket in price.

In just two weeks, diesel prices could jump to 100 hryvnias per liter. Gasoline will cost less, but will also become more expensive.

Fuel prices and the geopolitical arena: what is happening now

As early as April 9, US President Donald Trump stated that Iran should not charge tankers for passing through the Strait of Hormuz. And on April 10, he said that the US intends to ensure the opening of this route for navigation "quite soon."

On April 11, American forces began preparations for demining the strait's waters, and two American warships have already passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

And on Sunday, April 12, Trump announced the immediate start of a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after the failure of negotiations between the US and Iran on Tehran's nuclear program. The American leader stated that the US Navy would immediately begin a blockade of the strait. He also noted that the United States would intercept all vessels in international waters that paid Iran for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The country's leader announced his decision after the conclusion of fruitless negotiations between the American and Iranian delegations in Islamabad.

One of the key reasons for the breakdown of negotiations remained disagreements over Iran's nuclear program.

In turn, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, in response to Trump's words, wrote the following on his X social media page:

"Enjoy current gasoline prices. Soon you will nostalgically remember cheap gasoline at $4-5."

Experts hope for a gradual decrease in fuel costs by 45 cents per gallon within two weeks. But this will only be possible after the US and Iran reconcile and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz are resolved.
