Bulgaria allowed the deployment of American tanker aircraft at the Bezmer airbase, despite Iran's objections

The Bulgarian parliamentary defense committee on Tuesday approved a government proposal for the temporary deployment of American tanker aircraft and American military personnel at the Bezmer air base. This move prompted a sharp warning from Iran about the inadmissibility of facilitating US military operations, UNN reports, citing CNN.
The committee supported a draft decision of the Council of Ministers allowing the deployment of up to eight American tanker aircraft and 250 American military personnel at the air base in southeastern Bulgaria to support operations in the Middle East, the official Bulgarian News Agency reported.
The United States requested the deployment from July 24 to October 1, the agency added.
US Central Command, in response to a CNN inquiry on the matter, stated: "For operational security reasons, we do not discuss troop movements and do not make assumptions about future force posture."

Tehran immediately warned Bulgaria against the inadmissibility of using its territory or facilities to support US military actions against Iran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that any involvement in planning or conducting such operations would be tantamount to complicity in a "crime of aggression and war crimes." He called on the Bulgarian parliament to reject the troop deployment.
Under a bilateral defense cooperation agreement from 2006, Bulgaria, a NATO ally, has designated the Bezmer air base as a facility for joint use with the US armed forces.
