Azerbaijan is a country located in the South Caucasus, at the crossroads of West Asia and Eastern Europe. It is bordered by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west, and Iran to the south. The history of Azerbaijan dates back to ancient times, with the first state formations appearing in the late 4th — early 3rd millennia BC.
