The United States has warned Iran that it cannot deter Israel in the event of a new attack. Iran is threatening a “devastating response” to attacks on its territory, and the United States and Israel are increasing their military presence in the region.

Recently, the United States warned Iran against another attack on Israel, adding that Washington would not be able to deter Israel if it attacked again, Axios reported, citing an unnamed U.S. official and a former Israeli official, UNN reports.

“We told the Iranians: We will not be able to deter Israel, and we will not be able to make sure that the next attack will be as calculated and targeted as the previous one,” the newspaper quoted the American official as saying.

Washington and Tehran did not respond to the report, which came a few hours after Iran's supreme leader threatened Israel and the United States with a “devastating response” for attacks on Iran and its allies.

Any further attacks from either side could plunge the entire Middle East, which is already on the brink of war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Israel's ground operation in Lebanon, into a broader regional conflict just before the U.S. presidential election this Tuesday.

Israeli public broadcaster Kan reported on Saturday that although US authorities have detected “first moves” indicating that Iran is considering retaliation, there is no clear indication of when or how this will happen.

At the same time, Channel 12 reported that, according to Israeli security officials, Iran may prefer to act through its Shiite militias in Iraq and Yemen rather than respond directly to reduce the risk of another Israeli attack on Iranian territory. According to the newspaper, senior security officials have threatened to respond decisively to any attack, regardless of where it comes from.

Meanwhile, Arab media published footage on Saturday showing that an Israeli Navy missile boat has crossed the Suez Canal and is now in the Red Sea with a modern launcher capable of launching the advanced LORA missile developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, which has a range of 400 km.

Early Sunday, the US Central Command reported that a B-52 bomber had arrived in the region.

Earlier on Saturday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei threatened Israel and the United States with a “devastating response” to attacks on Iran and its allies.

“The enemies, whether it is the Zionist regime or the United States, will surely receive a crushing response to what they are doing to Iran, the Iranian nation and the resistance front,” Khamenei said in a video published by Iranian state media.
