Ukraine is actively increasing grain exports this year - Reuters

Ukraine increased its food exports to 4.2 million tons in July, twice as much as last year. The increase comes despite a drop in production due to the war, but the trend is not guaranteed to continue.

This summer, Ukraine is trying to ship as much grain as possible this summer, taking advantage of the military successes gained in the Black Sea region. Reuters reports and UNN reports.

It is noted that Ukraine has already doubled its food exports in July to more than 4.2 million tons compared to the same month last year. 

Kyiv does not currently report on the destinations of its exports in July, but last season most of Ukraine's wheat went to Spain, Egypt, and Indonesia, while corn was mainly shipped to Spain and China.

The publication noted that the growth comes despite a drop in production this season caused by war-related disruptions, and there is no guarantee that Kyiv will be able to maintain this trend throughout the 2024/25 season.

Currently, exports consist of new-season wheat and corn from stocks left over from last year's record harvest.

According to export data, in July Ukraine exported 3.7 million tons of agricultural goods through Odesa and 569,000 tons through the Danube.  For comparison, last year during this period, 291,000 tons were exported through Odesa and another 2.07 million tons through the Danube in July 2023.

In June and July, six shipments of corn were shipped from Ukraine's two other operating Black Sea ports, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi, to Rotterdam, the busiest port in Europe, and Spain's Cartegna.

Since July, Ukraine has also shipped cargo to China, Egypt, and Turkey, according to separate Kpler data.

Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky said that this summer's abnormal heat had little impact on early crops, but could reduce the yield of late crops by up to 10-15%.
