Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says Warsaw has no plans to send troops to Ukraine, despite media speculation. During his meeting with Macron, the two discussed security and support for Ukraine.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that as of today, Warsaw has no plans to send its troops to Ukraine, despite media speculation about the possible creation of a military contingent to stabilize the situation after the potential end of the conflict. Tusk emphasized that the decision on the participation of Polish troops will be made only in Poland. This was reported by UNN with reference to RMF24.
“I would like to take this opportunity to stop speculation about the presence of troops of this or that country in Ukraine after a ceasefire, truce or peace is reached. Decisions on Polish actions will be made in Warsaw, and only in Warsaw,” the Polish prime minister said.
He added that Poland is not currently planning such actions.
“We are on the same side regarding the security of Europe and a just peace in Ukraine,” Tusk emphasized.
He noted that Poland has the greatest commitment among European countries to support Ukraine in the war with Russia. He also added that Poland is a key hub of assistance to Ukraine and is actively working to strengthen the security of the NATO border.
During his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Tusk discussed the importance of joint efforts to achieve a just peace in Ukraine. Macron noted that the only possible solution is a lasting peace achieved through negotiations with Ukraine, and that Europe's security cannot be ensured without the active participation of Europeans.
Macron also recalled that during his recent trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, they discussed the situation in Ukraine and that “the United States will play a new role in the coming weeks and months.
During this meeting, the issue of signing a new friendship treaty between Poland and France was also raised, which, according to Tusk, could be an important step for future cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Tusk and Macron also discussed the need to strengthen European defense capabilities, including investments in security and energy cooperation. Macron emphasized the importance of strengthening security investments, including cyber defense, to counter hybrid attacks and disinformation linked to Russia. Tusk, in turn, emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine as part of a strategy to ensure stability and security in Europe.
