During a meeting in Vilnius with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Estonian President Alar Karis, and Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, the parties discussed the protection of the EU's eastern border, the strengthening of air defense and anti-drone systems, as well as support for Ukraine and sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.
"Today, words of solidarity are no longer enough – Europe must act quickly and concretely,"
The Lithuanian president stated that the drone incidents near the EU's eastern border last week were not accidental.
"These are not isolated provocations or accidental events. This is a direct consequence of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and another reminder of how close the war is to us,"
The president also emphasized that today the skies over the Baltic states are no longer sufficiently safe.
"We are facing ever-increasing pressure – from drone incursions and electronic interference to information attacks and threats of sabotage against critical infrastructure. This is the new security reality in Europe,"
