President of Finland reveals when the border with Russia could be opened

The border between Finland and the Russian Federation can only be opened when there is confidence that Russia is not using immigrants or refugees as a weapon against Finland. This was stated by Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Sunday during a Yle Radio Suomi program, UNN reports.

Details

According to the President, this confidence must be obtained from the highest political level of the Russian Federation.

During the program, a question was received from the audience as to why Estonia keeps its border open at three points and no migrants arrive there, while the Finnish border is closed.

In response, Stubb said that during a state visit to Lithuania, he visited the border between Lithuania and Belarus, where problems with migrants still exist.

Recall

Finland closed all of its road border crossings with Russia in 2024, citing national security risks associated with Russia's hybrid operations.
