Over UAH 16 million in combat payments without participating in battles — a serviceman in Lviv region has been served with a notice of suspicion

Law enforcement officers notified a military official, who was temporarily serving as the commander of one of the military units in the Lviv region, of suspicion. The officer was charged with negligent treatment of military service under martial law, which resulted in more than UAH 16 million in additional combat participation payments being unjustifiably paid from the state budget. This was reported by UNN, citing the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The investigation established that the official was responsible for organizing service in the military unit, keeping personnel records, and was supposed to have information about which service members were directly involved in combat operations and the performance of combat missions.

Between February and March 2024, he signed orders authorizing increased additional remuneration of UAH 100,000 per month, which included service members who, according to the investigation, did not directly participate in combat operations, did not ensure the implementation of national security and defense measures, and did not perform combat missions that would have entitled them to such payments.

A total of UAH 16,081,000 was paid from the state budget without proper legal grounds.

The individual involved was notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—negligent treatment of service by a military official, which caused grave consequences and was committed under martial law.

The article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.
