Intelligence agencies from the United States, Britain, and South Korea have exposed a DPRK cyberespionage campaign. Hackers attacked defense companies in an attempt to obtain data on nuclear and missile technologies.

North Korean hackers have conducted a cyber espionage campaign to steal classified military data in support of their nuclear program. This is stated in a joint report by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, the US National Security Agency, the UK National Cyber Security Center and the South Korean National Intelligence Service, Deutsche Welle reports, according to UNN .

Details

According to the intelligence services of the three countries, hackers, referred to by cybersecurity researchers as the Anadriel group, have attacked or hacked into the computer systems of a number of defense and engineering companies, including  manufacturers of tanks, submarines, warships, fighter jets, missiles, and radar systems. Anadriel has been identified as a unit of Pyongyang's spy agency.

The report says that the threat remains for businesses around the world, particularly in countries such as India and Japan.

Paul Chichester of the UK's National Cyber Security Center said that the global cyberespionage operation that was exposed shows the lengths to which Pyongyang is willing to go to implement its military and nuclear programs.

AddendumAddendum

According to the FBI, Anadriel exploited software vulnerabilities to conduct cyberattacks, including malware and phishing, to gain access to sensitive data and information. The special service noted that the hackers tried to obtain specifications and design drawings for uranium processing and enrichment, as well as data on missiles and missile defense systems.

The FBI urged companies operating in the defense, aerospace, nuclear, and engineering sectors to “remain vigilant in protecting their networks from North Korean-sponsored cyber operations.
