Near schools, they plan to ban fast-food kiosks - a bill has been submitted to the Rada

People's Deputy Heorhii Mazurashu has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada draft laws proposing to ban the installation of fast-food kiosks near schools, as well as to establish fines for violating these requirements. This was reported by UNN with reference to draft laws No. 15428 and No. 15429.

According to draft law No. 15428, it is proposed to establish that "for the purpose of protecting children's health and preventing alimentary obesity and diabetes," retail trade of food products (including catering products) with a significant content of sugar, salt, or excessive fat content is prohibited in the adjacent zone of educational institutions.

The draft law defines that the adjacent zone of an educational institution is the territory within a radius of 400 meters, measured in a straight line on a cartographic basis from any point of the official boundary of the land plot of the educational institution (preschool, general secondary, extracurricular, and vocational education) to the nearest point of the trade or catering facility.

It is indicated that a food product is considered to have an unbalanced nutrient content if the indicators per 100 grams of the product are:

• significant sugar content: more than 12.5 g for solid products; more than 6.3 g for liquid products;

• significant salt content: more than 1.5 g for solid products; more than 0.75 g for liquid products;

• excessive fat content: saturated fatty acids more than 5.0 g for solid products; more than 2.5 g for liquid products; industrially produced trans fatty acids more than 2.0 g of the total fat in the product.

However, this ban will not apply to fresh vegetables, fruits, berries, pure drinking water, as well as to meals organized directly inside the educational institution.

Draft law No. 15429 establishes liability for violating the above rules. In particular, retail trade of food products with a significant content of sugar, salt, or excessive fat content in the adjacent zone of educational institutions entails a fine for individual entrepreneurs, officials of legal entities from 8.5 thousand hryvnias to 17 thousand hryvnias with confiscation of trade items and proceeds from the sale of such products.

For a repeated violation within a year - a fine from 25.5 thousand hryvnias to 51 thousand hryvnias with confiscation of trade items and proceeds from the sale of such products.
