Mobile operators will pay UAH 2.8 billion as a result of the radio frequency auction: licenses distributed for 15 years

The National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications held an auction to sell radio frequency spectrum licenses to Vodafone, Kyivstar and Lifecell. The operators will install 1,500 new base stations and ensure rapid restoration of communications in the de-occupied territories.

Telecom regulator NKEK held an auction for the sale of licenses for radio frequency spectrum, as a result of which the state budget received UAH 2.8 billion. This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, UNN reports.

Details

As a result of the auction for radio frequency spectrum licenses, Vodafone, Kyivstar, and Lifecell will pay more than UAH 2.8 billion to the state budget for the use of frequencies, and the state will grant licenses for 15 years.

It is noted that the auction of frequencies is an important event not only for the mobile market but also for every Ukrainian.

The comfortable life of people, the functioning of the digital state, and even warfare depend on communication. And efficient frequency distribution will ensure gradual improvement of communication

They also reminded that licenses for radio frequency spectrum allow providing  Ukrainians with better mobile communications and the Internet. First of all, it is:

  • New base stations - at least 1,500 in two years, including 500 in the first year
  • return of communications to the de-occupied territories within a maximum of 6 months
  • increasing mobile coverage on international and national highways.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading a draft law that provides for the abolition of all upward and downward coefficients applied to the rates of rent for the use of radio frequency resources of Ukraine.
