Kyiv • UNN
A court in Kyiv sentenced Medinsky and Torkunov to 10 years over a Russian history textbook for the 11th grade. The book justifies Russian aggression and calls for changing Ukraine's borders - it is also actively used in the occupied territories.

The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv has issued a guilty verdict against Vladimir Medinsky and Anatoly Torkunov, the editors of the Russian 11th-grade textbook "History. History 1945 - Beginning of the 21st Century," published in the RF in 2023. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Details
The court sentenced each of the defendants to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
According to the investigation, this textbook became one of the tools of Russian information policy in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Its content includes public calls for changing the boundaries of the territory and the state border of Ukraine, justifies the armed aggression of the RF, the temporary occupation of Ukrainian territories, and forms a distorted, ideologically biased perception of modern history events in students
Furthermore, through this textbook, Russians impose on the residents of the occupied territories of Ukraine, particularly children, narratives about so-called "brotherly nations," the denial of Ukraine's independence as a state, "liberation" through the so-called "special military operation," and the Russian version of the war against Ukraine.
