During the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, French President Emmanuel Macron asked China to help prevent the escalation of the nuclear threat recently voiced by the president of a terrorist country. Macron emphasized the importance of China's role in maintaining global stability, especially after Putin's statement about his readiness to lower the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons in the context of the war in Ukraine.
The French leader also asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to influence Russia to stop the conflict in Ukraine.
In addition, Macron drew attention to the growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, which increases China's interest in the conflict. He called on Xi Jinping to take actions that could defuse tensions, particularly against the backdrop of Moscow's announcement of an update to its nuclear doctrine.
These comments came against the backdrop of new military escalations, when Ukraine launched an ATACMS missile attack on Russian military targets on Tuesday night, made possible by U.S. supplies.
