Macron said on Tuesday that he "shares" with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping "the desire for a lasting peace" that "respects" the UN Charter in Ukraine.
At the beginning of the meeting between the two heads of state on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Emmanuel Macron insisted on a "commonality of views" between France and China.
Following the meeting, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that "over the past six months, many new developments have taken place in the international space. China and France are independent, mature and responsible great countries. Bilateral relations have a unique strategic value and global significance.
And she added that "President Xi expressed his willingness to work with President Macron to deepen strategic communication, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, and maintain the stable and positive development of relations between China and France.
