The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of Russia to deliver a note of protest regarding the crash of drones that entered the country from Russian airspace. This was stated by the press service of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, reports UNN.

Today, May 7, 2026, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and handed a note of protest in connection with an incident that occurred on the morning of May 7 on the territory of the Republic of Latvia, when several drones entered the Rezekne, Balvi, and Ludza districts from the airspace of the Russian Federation

- the statement reads.

The representative of the Russian embassy was informed that Russia, by waging an aggressive war against Ukraine, creates risks of security incidents in the wider region. During the conversation, the Latvian side emphasized that, contrary to Russia's false public statements, Latvia has never granted permission to use its airspace for drone attacks on targets in Russia, and the drones entered Latvian airspace specifically from the territory of the Russian Federation.

Also during the conversation, Latvia expressed condemnation over the threats voiced by Russia in the public space to carry out a large-scale strike on the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, on May 9, specifically endangering foreign embassies located in the city.

It was emphasized that Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine is a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter. The Latvian side also reiterated its call to end the aggression and withdraw Russian armed forces from the entire internationally recognized territory of Ukraine
