According to the State Department spokesperson, the countries reached an agreement after two "productive" days of negotiations in Washington, with further talks to follow on June 2-3.
As AP notes, the fragile truce between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon was set to expire on Sunday.
"We hope these negotiations will contribute to establishing a lasting peace between the two countries, full recognition of each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the establishment of genuine security along their shared border," Pigott wrote on social media.
