According to the Secretary of State, the potential for a conflict resolution exists, but the situation is complicated by the presence of militants on Lebanese territory.
"Overall, I believe that a peace agreement between Lebanon and Israel is imminently achievable and should be concluded. The problem between Israel and Lebanon is not Israel or Lebanon, but Hezbollah. Hezbollah operates from Lebanese territory,"
Despite the truce, fighting in southern Lebanon continues
Despite the ceasefire concluded on April 16, hostilities in southern Lebanon have not ceased. Israeli troops continue to hold part of the territory, explaining this as a necessity to protect the country's northern regions from militant attacks.
According to Lebanese authorities, nearly 2,700 people have been killed as a result of Israeli strikes since the beginning of March.
Israel, for its part, states that Hezbollah militants operate in civilian areas, which complicates the conduct of operations.
