In Sudan, 28 people killed after drone strike on market

At least 28 people were killed and dozens injured as a result of a drone strike on a market in the town of Gubaish in Sudan's West Kordofan province. This was reported by the Associated Press with reference to the local human rights group Emergency Lawyers, UNN reports.

Details

According to human rights activists, the strike was carried out on Tuesday morning when the market was crowded with civilians. The group blamed the Sudanese army for the attack. Meanwhile, military representatives deny this, claiming that the drone allegedly attacked Rapid Support Forces equipment near the market without causing harm to civilians.

A full-scale war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has been ongoing since April 2023. West Kordofan is under RSF control, and the region regularly becomes a zone of combat operations and drone attacks.

According to the AP, the conflict in Sudan has already claimed the lives of at least 59,000 people, and more than 13 million have been forced to flee their homes. The UN previously stated that between January and April of this year alone, drone strikes killed at least 880 civilians.
