In Kyiv, a lyceum teacher was fined for showing a cartoon in Russian - Language Ombudsman

Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Olena Ivanovska issued a ruling on the application of an administrative penalty in the form of a fine of 3,400 hryvnias to a pedagogical employee of one of the capital's lyceums for violating the requirements of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language." This is stated on the Facebook page of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, reports UNN.

Details

A violation of Article 21 of the Language Law was established based on the results of state control over the use of the state language, which was carried out by the Commissioner's representative Ihor Spiridonov.

The basis for the state control was an appeal from the father of a student, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, who reported a violation of children's language rights in the educational process (during a lesson in the 1st grade, a fragment of a cartoon was used, the audio track of which was in Russian).

During the review of the state control materials, the pedagogical employee admitted the fact of the violation.

The use of the language of the aggressor state, particularly in education, is a gross and unacceptable violation of the law. First-grade students should not have to defend their language rights from adults. It is the duty of the educational institution, administration, and pedagogical employees to ensure the educational process in the state language

- emphasized Ihor Spiridonov.

Based on the review of the materials, an act and a protocol on an administrative offense were drawn up. The Commissioner applied an administrative penalty to the teacher in the form of a fine of 3,400 hryvnias. The fine was paid on the same day.
