Head of the European Council condemned Russian strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine

The President of the European Council, António Costa, sharply condemned the Russian attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine carried out on the night of Thursday, April 16. He wrote about this on the social network X, UNN reports.

"Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine has failed, and therefore it (Russia. — ed.) has decided to deliberately terrorize the civilian population," the statement reads.

"Last night, Russia launched another horrific attack on civilian targets in Ukraine. While people were sleeping in their homes, the cities of Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, and Kharkiv were hit by dozens of ballistic missiles and hundreds of drones," he noted. — "Russian armed forces deliberately launched repeated strikes on Ukrainian emergency services as rescuers arrived on the scene to save lives."

"Russia must stop this war of terror. A comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine, based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law, must be achieved," the head of the European Council emphasized.

Costa assured that to achieve such peace, the EU would continue to increase pressure on Russia. "And we will continue to provide unwavering support to Ukraine, which is defending itself against Russian aggression," he added.
