The German Finance Ministry denied information about the termination of aid to Ukraine in 2025. Part of the bilateral aid will be transferred to international programs, including $50 billion in G7 loans.

The German Ministry of Finance, at the request of Suspilne, commented on media reports that aid to Ukraine will be suspended from 2025. The German ministry noted that bilateral assistance from Germany will be partially transferred to international programs in the future. In particular, this refers to the decision of the G7 countries to provide Ukraine with $50 billion in loans at the expense of frozen Russian assets, UNN reports .

At the same time, the commentary states that the federal government supports Ukraine in financing and equipping it with military equipment to a degree that no other European partner does. This goal is served by the article “Modernization” in the federal budget for 2024, as well as targeted allocations for the following years.

“The Federal Ministry of Finance is willing to consider short-term additional funds until then. For this purpose, however, the additional needs must be clearly defined and understood in order to comply with all budgetary rules and on this basis to apply to the Bundestag for authorization,” the German Ministry of Finance emphasized.

The press service of the German agency added that it had not yet received any specific notification of the demands.

“Therefore, neither consideration nor decision can be made,” they summarized.

Context

On August 17, German media, including Bild and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, reported on the German government's alleged plans to stop providing military aid to Ukraine from 2025. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called such theses manipulative. In a comment to Suspilne, the German Ministry of Finance said that assistance to Ukraine would be partially transferred to international programs.

Journalists wrote that Germany would fulfill the current contracts, but would not accept new requests from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, as this would not be included in German budget planning.
