The drug amivantamab helped 43 patients with head and neck cancer, in 15 of whom the tumors disappeared. The medication blocks the growth of neoplasms and activates the immune system.
The experimental drug amivantamab has demonstrated encouraging results during an international clinical trial involving patients with head and neck cancer that did not respond to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. This was reported by The Guardian, according to UNN.

In the trial, which spanned 11 countries and included 102 patients, tumors shrank or completely disappeared in 43 people. Specifically, doctors recorded the complete disappearance of tumors in 15 patients, while another 28 saw a significant reduction in neoplasms.

The drug amivantamab acts in several ways simultaneously: it blocks tumor growth mechanisms, prevents the development of treatment resistance, and activates the immune system to fight cancer cells. Researchers also noted that most side effects were mild or moderate.
The drug is undergoing further testing
The study results will be presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference in Chicago. Developed by Johnson & Johnson, the drug is currently undergoing dozens of clinical trials for the treatment of various types of cancer, including lung, colon, stomach, and brain cancer.
