Medics removed a cancerous tumor from a woman at 31 weeks of pregnancy without inducing premature labor. The patient later gave birth to a healthy child and is currently in remission.
Iryna, a resident of Lviv, was diagnosed with breast cancer during her 31st week of pregnancy. Specialists at St. Panteleimon Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv managed to remove the tumor and prevent premature birth. This was reported by the Lviv City Council, according to UNN.

38-year-old Iryna Burdyo noticed a lump in her breast during the 26th week of pregnancy and sought medical advice. After an examination, doctors diagnosed the patient with stage one breast cancer.
According to surgical oncologist and mammologist Artem Fedosov, the tumor was hormone-dependent, and the pregnancy accelerated its growth.
"The patient had a high level of hormones released during pregnancy, which stimulated the growth of this tumor, so we had to act as quickly as possible,"
The operation was performed at the 31st week of pregnancy. Twelve specialists participated in the surgical intervention, including oncologists, anesthesiologists, obstetrician-gynecologists, and neonatologists. The medical team was prepared for any scenario, including the emergency rescue of the infant.
The operation was successful — doctors completely removed the tumor and prevented premature labor. The baby's condition remained stable during the intervention.
Five weeks after the surgery, at the 36th week of pregnancy, Iryna gave birth to a healthy son. The boy is now eight months old.
After completing her treatment, the woman underwent additional examinations. Doctors found no spread of the oncological disease, and the patient is currently in remission.
