The city of Brovary has become a member of the Milan Food Policy Pact along with 230 other cities around the world. The agreement provides for the exchange of experience in developing food systems and improving access to healthy food.
Brovary has joined the Milan Pact on Urban Food Policy and will attract foreign experience in the development of the food system. This was reported by Brovary Mayor Ihor Sapozhko, according to UNN.
The Milan Pact was signed, and thus our city, along with 230 other Ukrainian cities, declared its consent to support a significant international initiative
According to him, the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP), launched by the Municipality of Milan in 2015, is an international agreement between cities around the world that commit to “developing sustainable food systems that are inclusive, resilient, safe and diverse, that minimize waste and conserve biodiversity, while adapting to and mitigating climate change.
It is worth noting that this international agreement has several key objectives. First of all, it is an exchange of experience between cities in food system management, which helps to improve efficiency in food production and distribution. This includes environmental waste management and the fight against food wastage.
The agreement also aims to improve access to healthy and safe food for citizens, especially vulnerable populations.
In addition, the Milan Pact aims to develop local food production to reduce import dependence. MUFPP also helps local authorities to actively raise funds from international partners to repair and modernize canteens in educational institutions.
“The Milan Pact for Urban Food Policy is an international agreement of mayors. It is more than a declaration, it is a concrete working tool for cities,” states on the website of this initiative.
Among the cities participating in the pact are Barcelona (Spain), Berlin (Germany), Geneva (Switzerland), London (UK), Los Angeles (USA), New York (USA), and many others.
