On July 20, as part of the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation, the tanker MV SOUTH STAR was detained, suspected of sailing under a false flag. EU member states approved the EUNAVFOR ATALANTA operation to verify flags on vessels of the Russian shadow fleet.
