The statement by the leaders of the countries should be made against the backdrop of Israel's demand that France not play a significant role in the monitoring mechanism of the agreement. During the negotiations, Israel demanded that France not participate in the forum that monitors compliance with the agreement, including because of Paris' position on the International Criminal Court, but at Lebanon's insistence, the parties reached a compromise under which the United States will ensure compliance with the agreement and France will play a secondary role.

In Washington, White House national security spokesman John Kirby said: "We are close," but "nothing is done until everything is done.

The French presidency said that ceasefire talks have made significant progress. In Jerusalem, a senior Israeli official said that the Israeli cabinet will meet on Tuesday to approve a truce agreement with Hezbollah.

The diplomatic breakthrough was preceded by the Lebanese army's strikes on Hezbollah's weapons production centers in Beirut, as previously reported in UNN
