Sumy is a city located in the northeastern part of Ukraine on the Central Russian Upland, on the banks of the Psel River. It belongs to the historical region of Slobozhanshchyna. The population of Sumy as of May 2025 was 268.409 thousand people. On February 24, 2022, Russian troops approached Sumy, starting battles. The city was shelled by the Russians but remained under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
