World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day

April 12 is the World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day, which is celebrated annually in honor of one of the greatest victories of mankind in space exploration. This date became historic, because it was on April 12, 1961 that a man first went into outer space. Yuri Gagarin became the first cosmonaut, who on board the spacecraft "Vostok-1" made an orbital flight around the Earth.

The space era began with this event, and although until that moment space exploration seemed something absolutely fantastic, the work of thousands of engineers, scientists and designers turned the impossible into reality. This event became a symbol of human courage, the desire for new horizons and inspired many generations to further achievements in the field of cosmonautics and aviation.

Day of Workers of the Rocket and Space Industry of Ukraine

On April 12, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Workers of the Rocket and Space Industry, a professional holiday that was established in accordance with the Decree of President Leonid Kuchma of March 13, 1997 (№ 230/97). The decree states that this day is dedicated to the "significant contribution of workers of the rocket and space industry of Ukraine to scientific research, creation of modern rocket and space technology and implementation of high space technologies in the national economy." This holiday emphasizes the importance of Ukrainian scientists, engineers and designers in the development of cosmonautics on the international arena.

As UNN mentioned above, it became significant that on April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin made the world's first space flight on the ship "Vostok-1". It is important to note that it was a Ukrainian, Serhiy Pavlovich Korolyov, who played a key role in the preparation and implementation of this flight. As the chief designer, he created the rocket system for this historic flight, and also supervised the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite and the development of the first intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Ukraine's achievements in the field of cosmonautics are not limited to the history of Gagarin. In 1997, Ukrainian astronaut Leonid Kadenyuk made his flight into space as a member of the crew of the American spacecraft "Columbia" during the STS-87 mission. This was an important event for Ukraine, because during this flight the Ukrainian flag, coat of arms, and the anthem of Ukraine were in space.

World Hamster Day

This date was chosen in honor of the beginning of the domestication of these cute animals, which took place on this day in 1930. Then, Israeli zoologist Israel Aharoni went in search of rodents in the fields of Syria, where he found wild hamsters and brought them to the laboratory for further research and breeding.

Hamsters, thanks to their unpretentiousness, interesting habits and cute appearance, quickly won the hearts of people all over the world. They became not only pets, but also the subject of scientific research, because hamsters are often used in laboratory research due to their short lifespan and rapid reproduction.
