According to the New Julian calendar, believers observe the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Today also marks International Day of the Tropics and Camera Day.
Today's date is extremely important for believers, as according to the new calendar it marks one of the greatest Christian holidays of summer and the end of a long fast, writes UNN.
Feast of the Holy Chief Apostles Peter and Paul
According to the new (New Julian) calendar, which the OCU and UGCC have adopted, this great holiday is now celebrated on June 29 (previously July 12). Peter and Paul are considered the most outstanding disciples of Christ, who made the greatest contribution to the spread of Christianity in the world, for which they received the title of "chief apostles."
Both suffered martyrdom in Rome. Among the people, this holiday also symbolizes the true beginning of the hottest summer (traditionally, mass harvesting began after St. Peter's Day).
End of the Apostles' Fast (Petrivka)
With the arrival of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, the summer fast officially ends. Believers are allowed to eat any food, including meat and dairy products.
