The US military has destroyed three Iranian-backed Houthi rebel drones in Yemen over the past 24 hours, citing a direct threat to US troops, coalition forces and merchant ships in the region.

"Over the past 24 hours, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) forces have successfully destroyed three Iranian-backed Houthi unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen," the publication says.
At the same time, the statement of the Central Command indicates that these drones were recognized as "posing a direct threat to US forces, coalition forces and merchant vessels in the region.
"These actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer," the US military added.
