Refugees without passports in PESEL must update their data by August 2026. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the right to reside and work in the country.
Ukrainians residing in Poland, whose PESEL UKR status number was issued without presenting a passport, must confirm their identity by August 31, 2026. This is a requirement of Polish law, reports UNN with reference to the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets.

To do this, you need to take the following steps:
- contact the gmina or city administration and present a valid passport. The authority will independently update the data in the register;
- if this is not done in time, it may result in the loss of UKR status, a change of status in the register, and the loss of a legal basis for staying and working in Poland.
You should also check the relevance of all personal data, especially if your passport or surname has changed. This is critically important when applying for a CUKR residence permit for both adults and children.
