It was Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin who ordered the submarine to be sent to the Middle East, where the situation is becoming increasingly tense. The United States rarely announces such submarine transfers.
Austin also ordered the accelerated deployment of the aircraft carrier ISS Abraham Lincoln and the auxiliary ships that make up the ship's battle group. The ships sailed from the naval base on the island of Guam in the middle of the Pacific Ocean before the weekend.
