The rise in antisemitism we have seen in recent years tests our values as a nation, and tackling it has been a central part of my leadership from day one
Additional police officers will work in London and Manchester
The new package involves deploying about 300 additional police officers to London and about 80 more to Greater Manchester. Additionally, 43 million pounds will be allocated to support police units in other regions with significant Jewish populations.
Separately, the London Metropolitan Police will receive 86 million pounds in new funding, of which 59 million pounds are designated for counter-terrorism.
As Reuters notes, the decision to allocate funds was made after a series of antisemitic attacks in the UK. In particular, in April, authorities raised the terrorist threat level to "severe" following a knife attack in north London, which is being investigated as antisemitic.
