The Ministry of Defense has opened access to 5 million battlefield images to train Ukrainian defense AI

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reports that Ukrainian defence companies have been granted access to Avengers Labs, a platform for training AI models for unmanned systems based on real battlefield data. It was developed by the Centre for Innovation and Development of Defence Technologies, which previously created the Delta combat system. The Ministry of Defence reports this, UNN writes.

Avengers Labs is based on an annotated dataset of 5 million frames collected on the battlefield. Most of these materials come directly from the Delta combat system and are constantly supplemented with new data of practical value in combat conditions. They cover a wide range of targets: tanks; artillery; air defence systems; infantry; and aerial objects, including Shahed drones and reconnaissance UAVs

- the statement said.

It is noted that access to Avengers Labs accelerates the development of artificial intelligence-based technologies, since private companies cannot collect a dataset of comparable size and quality.

An automatic target-detection system has been trained on the Avengers Labs dataset. It has already confirmed its effectiveness in Delta and analyses more than 100,000 video streams from drones every month.

When processing video, artificial intelligence detects 70% of all enemy targets in real time and helps locate them both during the day and at night

- the Ministry of Defence noted.

It is reported that the first defence companies have already signed licensing agreements with the Ministry of Defence to use the Avengers Labs platform. Partner countries can also join the platform. To do so, companies must submit an application on the website, after which they will undergo a compliance check against certain criteria.
