Starmer accused Russia of "playing games" regarding the ceasefire

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has accused Russia of "filibustering" and "playing games" regarding a ceasefire and peace talks in Ukraine, UNN reports, citing The Guardian.

Details

At a press conference following the "coalition of the willing" summit in Paris, Starmer criticised Russia for the fact that "more than two weeks since Ukraine agreed to an immediate 30-day ceasefire, this proposal remains unanswered" by Russia, while the bombing of Ukraine continues.

He said that regarding the Black Sea Initiative, Russia "put forward new conditions and delays", stating that US President Trump "rightly called them slow".

"Today here in Paris we agreed that the Russians are playing filibuster. They are playing games and stalling for time. This is a classic from Putin's textbook, but we cannot allow them to drag this out while continuing to pursue their illegal invasion," Starmer said.

Addition

The Paris summit brought together about thirty countries of the European Union and/or NATO, ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement with Russia, but the United States is not participating in this.

The meeting was to discuss the prospect of deployment of guarantee forces in Ukraine as part of a future peace settlement with the support of the United States.

After world leaders gathered in Paris for the summit of the "coalition of the willing" to support Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held the first talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Zelenskyy previously noted that Ukraine expects more specifics from the "coalition of the willing" summit in Paris regarding which countries are ready to join the security guarantees for our state. In particular, it concerns sending a peacekeeping contingent.

Macron planned to use the leaders' meeting to discuss what he called a "force of assurance" of European soldiers that could be stationed at strategic points throughout Ukraine to deter Russia from re-attacking after peace is achieved, adding that it could respond to any aggression.

For reference

Filibuster is a tactic of obstructing bills by a parliamentary minority by delaying decision-making through the introduction of a huge number of amendments, chanting slogans, lengthy reflections on the topic and not on the topic.
