Russian dictator Vladimir Putin stated that an agreement on a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine was reached following Moscow's warnings of possible retaliatory measures in the event of strikes on the Russian Federation during the Victory Day celebrations. During a press conference in Moscow, Putin stated that the Russian side had conveyed information to the US regarding the need to take security measures for American diplomats in Kyiv in case of Ukrainian attacks during the military parade in Russia.
According to Putin, it was after these contacts that the idea of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange emerged, which was supported by US President Donald Trump.
Putin also announced readiness for a meeting with Zelenskyy
The truce, which Trump announced on Friday, will be in effect from May 9 to 11. The parties also agreed to exchange one thousand prisoners.
During his speech, Putin stated that he is ready to meet with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy "in Moscow or any other place," but only for the signing of a peace agreement.
