Pistorius suggested that Germany will play a role in securing a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine

The German Defense Minister announced a possible role for the country in ensuring a future ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. The specific details of participation will depend on the terms of the ceasefire and the mandate of the peacekeeping force.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that his country is likely to play a role in securing a future ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine. However, he noted that it is too early to say what the peacekeeping force might look like. UNN reports this with reference to Reuters.
“If there is a ceasefire, then of course the Western community, the NATO partners, potentially the UN and the European Union will have to discuss how such a peace, such a ceasefire can be secured,” he said, adding that ”obviously Germany, as the largest economy in Europe, will play an important role in this.
Pistorius indicated that he could not yet say what Germany's role might be, as it depends on the conditions of the ceasefire and the potential mandate of the peacekeeping force.
He emphasized that it should also be clearly understood that both Ukraine and Russia accept such a mandate.
“You can tell from my answer that there are many more questions than answers right now. And that is why I cannot give you a comprehensive answer,” he said.
