The militant detained in France tortured at least nine people in the Donetsk prison. He has been charged with committing war crimes.

France has detained one of the torturers from the illegal Donetsk prison "Izolyatsiya" for committing war crimes in Ukraine. This was reported by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Ruslan Kravchenko, who added that "this is already the second case of detention abroad of individuals involved in committing war crimes in Ukraine," reports UNN.
Thanks to the cooperation between the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and the law enforcement agencies of the French Republic, a member of a terrorist organization involved in the torture of people in the illegal Donetsk prison "Izolyatsiya" has been detained in France
According to the investigation, between 2017 and 2019, the Ukrainian citizen voluntarily cooperated with the so-called "Ministry of State Security of the DPR."
Former captives say he was an assistant to the head of the illegal prison in occupied Donetsk. According to them, he participated in the torture of prisoners, treated them cruelly, exerted psychological pressure, forced them to give confessions, and humiliated people. Currently, at least nine victims have been identified, the Prosecutor General added.
According to him, in 2021, when the investigation in Ukraine was completed and the case was sent to court, the accused fled Ukraine for France and attempted to obtain refugee status there.
Following an appeal by Ukrainian prosecutors, the NGO "Truth Hounds," and other civil society organizations, French law enforcement opened their own criminal proceedings. Together with Ukrainian prosecutors, they interrogated the victims, and the Ukrainian side handed over additional case materials to strengthen the evidence. As a result of the joint effort, the man was detained. At the request of the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office of France, he was taken into custody and charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity
The Prosecutor General emphasized that the investigation is currently being conducted under the direction of an investigating judge of a specialized unit of the Paris Court.
This is already the second case of detention abroad of individuals involved in committing war crimes in Ukraine. The first was the sentence in Finland of a militant from Russian armed formations, who was sentenced to life imprisonment. The appellate review of this decision is currently in its final stages. We highly value international cooperation with foreign partners. It demonstrates once again: no borders will serve as protection for persons involved in crimes against Ukrainians. Accountability is inevitable. We continue our work - Kravchenko concluded.
