In an interview with the ARD television channel, Merz emphasized that Berlin remains interested in engaging with Washington, despite the tension between the leaders.
Disagreements between the parties arose after Merz criticized US actions in the war in the Middle East. In response, Trump announced his intention to significantly reduce the American military presence in Germany.
