Details
According to the investigation, the director held the position since 1990 and was responsible for the technical condition of the track, its repair, and safe operation. At the same time, the facility was approximately 80% worn out: concrete supports and wooden decking were in an emergency state.
Despite this, the head did not organize a technical inspection and did not initiate major repairs.
Moreover, knowing about the dangerous condition of the structure, in January 2023, he signed an agreement to lease the track for training.
In May 2023, during one of the training sessions, the rotten wooden decking collapsed under a 14-year-old athlete who was descending the track. The girl sustained injuries incompatible with life and died on the spot.
The suspicion was announced after receiving expert conclusions that confirmed the causal link between the technical condition of the track and the child's death, the Prosecutor General's Office added.
