The fire is believed to have started in the elevator shaft between the first and second floors of the tower. One of the eyewitnesses wrote on the social network X: "There is a fire in the Eiffel Tower now. The monument has just been evacuated. The rescue service has set up a cordon, but firefighters can't reach the fire.
A journalist from Boulevard Voltaire said: "About 1,200 people were evacuated. According to reports, firefighters have determined that the fire was caused by an overheating cable.
