Researchers suggest that the new type of diabetes could affect up to 25 million people worldwide. They emphasize that due to a lack of awareness among doctors, patients are often misdiagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
According to specialists, incorrect identification of the disease type can lead to ineffective treatment and a worsening of the patients' condition. This is why scientists are calling for intensified research into type 5 diabetes and the development of clear diagnostic criteria to avoid errors in medical practice.
