The exercise, named Arrcade Strike, took place on the platform of the closed Charing Cross station near Trafalgar Square and the Whitehall government district. Hundreds of British military personnel and representatives from over 20 NATO countries participated in the maneuvers.
According to the exercise scenario, in 2030 Russia attacks Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, after which NATO activates Article 5 on collective defense. The Headquarters of NATO's Allied Rapid Reaction Corps coordinated the simulated operation involving approximately 100,000 Alliance troops.
Abandoned subway station transformed into NATO "bunker"
British media report that during the exercise, the London Underground platform simulated a bunker in the Estonian capital, Tallinn. Sky News also showed a simulated television report on the start of World War III following a Russian attack on the Baltics.
"The scenario you are about to see is intentionally set for 2030, because that is when we believe the threat of a Russian attack will be most acute,"
