Beijing denies any involvement in the cyberattack on the US Treasury Department that took place in early December. Hackers gained access to unclassified documents through an external security provider.

China responded to the US Treasury Department's claims that a Chinese cyberattack was used to circumvent its computer security and steal documents.

Beijing denied allegations that a Chinese-backed organization was responsible for a cyberattack on the US Treasury Department.

China “has always opposed any form of hacking,” but “is even more opposed to spreading false information against China for political purposes,” the response said. 

Earlier , the U.S. Treasury Department said that a Chinese-backed cyberattack was aimed at infiltrating several of the department's workplaces. According to a spokesperson for the ministry, the attackers gained access to Treasury computers and some documents through an external security provider in early December 2024. The attackers were able to gain remote access to workstations and certain unclassified documents.
