On December 26, the airline suspended flights to Russia for a week. The decision was announced  the day after the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from Baku to Grozny in Kazakhstan.

According to preliminary results , the crash of the Embraer 190 airplane was caused by “external interference,” Azerbaijan Airlines said.

Russian officials put forward a version that the cause of the plane crash over Aktau (Kazakhstan) was a gas cylinder explosion. This position surprised the Azerbaijani authorities because the condition of the plane's fuselage completely negated this version.
